Astros Struggling to Find Momentum

The Houston Astros (62-48) dropped a tough one in extra innings on Friday, falling 2-1 in the series opener against the Red Sox. Despite jumping ahead early with a solo home run from Walker in the second inning, the offense stalled, failing to score over the final eight frames. Houston totaled seven hits on the night and committed one error.

Starter Hunter Brown was solid, going 7.0 innings while allowing just one run on four hits. However, the bullpen couldn’t hold on, with Sousa taking the loss in relief.

The Astros have hit a rough patch recently, losing six of their last eight games. They managed to win a series against Washington earlier this week but were swept by the lowly Athletics before that. Still, they sit atop the AL West thanks to solid pitching and timely hitting throughout the season.

So far, Houston’s pitching staff ranks among the best in the league with a 3.66 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and a .229 opponent batting average. Offensively, they’ve produced 474 runs with a .257 team batting average and a .321 on-base percentage. Jose Altuve leads the way with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs, while Yanier Diaz has chipped in with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Lefty Colton Gordon is expected to start Saturday’s matchup. He holds a 4-3 record with a 4.74 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 62.2 innings this season.

Red Sox Riding Hot Streak Into Game Two

The Boston Red Sox (60-51) pulled off a gritty 10-inning win on Friday night, overcoming early struggles at the plate. After tying the game in the seventh, Boston walked it off in extras, capitalizing on Houston’s stalled offense.

Boston recorded six hits and three errors, with key RBIs coming from Wilyer Abreu and Roman Anthony. Spot starter Chris Criswell turned in a quality outing, giving up one run over seven innings. Justin Weissert picked up the win out of the bullpen.

The Red Sox are trending upward, winning five of their last six games. They’ve taken recent series against both the Twins and Dodgers and are currently third in the AL East as they continue to fight for a playoff spot.

The Red Sox pitching staff enters Saturday with a 3.74 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a .245 opponent batting average. Their offense has scored 547 runs while hitting .253 with a .323 OBP. Abreu has been a breakout force, slugging 20 home runs and 58 RBIs. Trevor Story is also heating up, adding 17 homers and 65 RBIs to the mix.

Walker Buehler is slated to take the mound for Boston. The veteran right-hander is 6-6 on the year with a 5.72 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 89.2 innings.
