Elite NHL Picks Today 10/15
The Edmonton Oilers have been here before, struggling to gain traction at the start of the season. After a promising run to the Stanley Cup Final just months ago, they’ve stumbled out of the gate. Dropping their first three games in 2024. Now, they look to course-correct in the final game of their four-game homestand, hosting the Philadelphia Flyers.
Edmonton’s issues have been glaring, being outscored 15-3 over their first three losses. Including embarrassing defeats to the Chicago Blackhawks and Calgary Flames. Teams that didn’t even make the playoffs last season. Despite this slow start, there’s a silver lining. The Oilers began last season 2-9-1, only to fire coach Jay Woodcroft and hire Knoblauch. Ultimately making a dramatic rebound that took them to the Stanley Cup Final.
On the other side, the Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a split to start their four-game road trip. After an exciting 3-2 shootout victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The Flyers faltered in a 6-3 loss to Calgary the next night. Travis Konecny has been a bright spot for the Flyers, notching two goals so far. Including a short-handed effort. He led the NHL last season with six short-handed goals and continues to be a threat on both ends of the ice.
While the Flyers have shown resilience, battling back from deficits and sticking up for teammates. Such as Tyson Foerster dropping the gloves in Calgary—they’ve also been inconsistent. This makes their upcoming match against an Oilers team desperate to break their losing streak all the more intriguing.
Official Elite NHL Pick Tonight 10/15
The Oilers are facing immense pressure to get their first win of the season, and they’ll be coming out with something to prove in front of their home crowd.
However, the Flyers are poised to win this game because they’ve got their starting goalie, Samuel Ersson, back in net. Ersson’s steady presence and ability to make big saves under pressure will provide the defensive backbone the Flyers need to shut down the Oilers’ high-powered offense. With Ersson leading the way, Philadelphia has the edge in goal and can capitalize on Edmonton’s shaky start.
