Kings’ Neutral-Zone Masterclass – Another 20* Elite NHL Pick Tonight

Last night’s Over 6 graded as a push as the Kings beat the Canadiens 5–1. I did receive several emails stating bettors were able to get 5.5 and I love it! Congrats if you were one of those bettors, I am happy for you!

The story was all LA: they completely smothered Montreal in the neutral zone with a classic neutral-zone trap, and the Habs never solved it. If this is the identity the Kings are leaning into, it looks a lot like the 2014 LA Kings—structured, relentless, and dangerous. Health permitting, they’re a legit threat to make a deep run.

The only way a team can play against a neutral zone trap is by dumping the puck deep and getting in on the forecheck. For Montreal, they are not big enough or strong enough to play a strong forechecking game. They rely on their speed and skill through the neutral zone which does not work against teams like the LA Kings and Florida Panthers.
