Los Angeles Kings Look to Rebound Against Florida Panthers
The Los Angeles Kings are in desperate need of a spark as they continue their five-game road trip with a stop in Sunrise, Florida, to face the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night. Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses, setting the stage for a competitive rematch of their Jan. 22 meeting, where the Kings edged out the Panthers 2-1 in Los Angeles.
Kings Searching for Offense Amid Skid
Los Angeles enters this matchup in a rough stretch, having dropped six of its last eight games (2-5-1). Their offensive struggles have been glaring, managing just 15 goals over that span. The Kings fell 5-2 to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday, a game that started with promise but quickly unraveled.
Kevin Fiala and Quinton Byfield provided the scoring for L.A., but Byfield’s goal was a fortunate break. Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider inadvertently knocked the puck into his own net, handing the Kings a brief 2-0 lead late in the first period. However, Detroit responded swiftly, with Lucas Raymond cutting the deficit to 2-1 just 35 seconds later. The Red Wings controlled the game from that point, netting two goals in both the second and third periods to hand Los Angeles another tough loss.
Goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves, but it wasn’t enough to withstand Detroit’s offensive push. If the Kings hope to snap their skid, they’ll need more consistency on both ends of the ice.
Panthers Aim to Regroup at Home
Meanwhile, the Panthers are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday, which wrapped up their four-game road trip at 2-2. The game was the second half of a back-to-back for Florida, who cruised past the San Jose Sharks 7-2 on Saturday before running into a stifling Vegas defense.
Anton Lundell provided the lone goal for the Panthers, while Spencer Knight stopped 22 shots in net. The loss marked the second game back for defenseman Aaron Ekblad, who had missed seven contests due to an upper-body injury.
Back on home ice, Florida will look to regain its footing as it continues to chase Boston in the Atlantic Division standings.
