MLB Game Previews – Monday, September 8, 2025

Here’s your inside look at every MLB matchup today. These are leans only — my official picks are released exclusively to paying clients at 4 PM EST.

Kansas City Royals @ Cleveland Guardians – 6:40 PM ET

Kansas City’s Ryan Bergert has shown swing-and-miss potential in limited action, but the Guardians’ lineup is built to make pitchers work. Cleveland doesn’t chase much and grinds out at-bats, which could drive Bergert’s pitch count up early. Slade Cecconi takes the mound for Cleveland — when he has his command, he can keep the ball in the park, but he’s been vulnerable when falling behind hitters. Kansas City’s bullpen has been used heavily over the past week, while Cleveland’s relievers remain one of the most consistent in the league.

Bullpen Edge: Guardians
Lean: Guardians late, Under in the first five innings.

Washington Nationals @ Miami Marlins – 6:40 PM ET

The Nationals continue to lean on CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas to set the table, but they’ve struggled to drive runners in with consistency. Miami’s pitching staff is young but effective at home, where their park suppresses home runs. The Marlins’ offense has been streaky, though Jazz Chisholm Jr. remains the spark plug. Washington’s bullpen has one of the worst ERAs in the league, while Miami’s relief group has stabilized after early-season struggles.

Bullpen Edge: Marlins
Lean: Full-game Under, slight lean to Miami at home.

New York Mets @ Philadelphia Phillies – 6:45 PM ET

Rivalry baseball under the lights in Philly. The Mets have leaned on Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso for offense, but their bullpen has been a major issue in close games. Philadelphia has a dangerous lineup that can change a game with one swing, and they’ve been tough at home all season. Their bullpen, led by strong back-end arms, has been a key advantage. If the Mets can get length from their starter, they’ll have a shot, but once the game flips to the late innings, the Phillies’ edge becomes clear.

Bullpen Edge: Phillies
Lean: Phillies late, Over on Philly team total.

Chicago Cubs @ Atlanta Braves – 7:15 PM ET

Shōta Imanaga’s ability to change speeds and stay away from barrels has kept him effective against even elite lineups. The Braves counter with Bryce Elder, who pitches to contact and relies on infield defense. Atlanta has been up-and-down at the plate, with Ronald Acuña Jr. driving the offense but the middle of the order struggling at times. Chicago’s bullpen has been a pleasant surprise, while Atlanta’s relievers have shown cracks under pressure. This game sets up as a tactical battle — early edge to Imanaga, but Atlanta’s bats could awaken at any time.

Bullpen Edge: Cubs (slight)
Lean: First-five Under, Braves live line late.

Milwaukee Brewers @ Texas Rangers – 8:05 PM ET

The Brewers have been one of the most consistent teams all season, thriving on patient at-bats and strong bullpen work. Christian Yelich’s return has energized the lineup, while William Contreras continues to deliver big hits. The Rangers, still dealing with key injuries, rely on younger bats like Wyatt Langford to provide a spark. Texas’ bullpen has been unreliable, while Milwaukee’s has been nails, ranking near the top of MLB in ERA. If the Rangers can’t get length from their starter, the Brewers are well-positioned to pull away late.

Bullpen Edge: Brewers
Lean: Brewers moneyline, Under if pitching holds.

Minnesota Twins @ Los Angeles Angels – 9:38 PM ET

The Twins lean heavily on their pitching staff, which has kept them in contention despite a middle-of-the-road offense. Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis have been key producers, while the bullpen has been steady all year. The Angels, meanwhile, remain unpredictable: their lineup can explode one night and vanish the next. Their bullpen has been among the least reliable in baseball, and blown saves have cost them repeatedly. Minnesota will look to grind through at-bats, put pressure on Angels pitchers, and let their bullpen finish the job.

Bullpen Edge: Twins
Lean: Twins full game, Under if Angels stay cold.

Cincinnati Reds @ San Diego Padres – 9:40 PM ET

Nick Lodolo has been sharp, especially against left-handed bats, with a curveball that’s given hitters fits. He’ll need it against a Padres lineup that has been inconsistent but still dangerous with Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado. Yu Darvish brings experience but has struggled with command, and Cincinnati’s aggressive hitters could take advantage early. Both bullpens have been inconsistent, though San Diego’s has been slightly steadier at home. Expect the Reds to attack early, while the Padres may rely on late-inning magic.

Bullpen Edge: Padres (slight)
Lean: Reds first five innings, Padres late.

St. Louis Cardinals @ Seattle Mariners – 9:40 PM ET

Seattle thrives in games like this — tight, low-scoring, and decided late. Their rotation and bullpen are among the league’s best, and T-Mobile Park suppresses big innings. The Cardinals rely heavily on Goldschmidt and Arenado, but beyond that their lineup has lacked punch. St. Louis’ bullpen hasn’t been nearly as steady as Seattle’s, giving the Mariners a significant late-game advantage. Unless the Cardinals jump on the starter early, Seattle should be in control once the bullpens are involved.

Bullpen Edge: Mariners
Lean: Mariners full game, Under 8.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants – 9:45 PM ET

Arizona’s lineup is built around speed and athleticism, led by Corbin Carroll, while San Francisco plays a steadier, veteran-driven style. The Diamondbacks’ bullpen has been shaky, especially in high-leverage innings, while the Giants’ pen has quietly become one of the most dependable units in the National League. Oracle Park favors pitchers, meaning execution on situational hitting will be the difference. Both managers are likely to go heavy on bullpen matchups late.

Bullpen Edge: Giants
Lean: Giants late, Under in a pitcher’s park.

Boston Red Sox @ Oakland Athletics – 10:05 PM ET

Garrett Crochet brings strikeout firepower for Boston, and the A’s young lineup has struggled against quality lefties. Luis Morales gets the call for Oakland, and while he’s flashed upside, his lack of experience against veteran lineups is a concern. Boston’s lineup has been hot, producing runs in a variety of ways, while Oakland’s bullpen remains among the league’s worst. If Morales doesn’t give the A’s length, this could unravel quickly.

Bullpen Edge: Red Sox
Lean: Red Sox run line, Over on Boston’s team total.

Colorado Rockies @ Los Angeles Dodgers – 10:10 PM ET

Chase Dollander faces the toughest test of his young career against the Dodgers’ loaded lineup. Los Angeles has been relentless at home, and with Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman in the heart of the order, mistakes often turn into crooked numbers. Colorado’s bullpen has struggled mightily all season, while the Dodgers’ relief corps has been dominant. This game sets up as lopsided on paper, with the Rockies needing a near-perfect outing from Dollander to keep it close.

Bullpen Edge: Dodgers
Lean: Dodgers team total Over, Dodgers run line.
