Boston Red Sox vs Texas Rangers Preview

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy is seeking a spark from his team as they gear up to host the Boston Red Sox for a three-game series starting Friday night in Arlington, Texas. After two rough outings against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Rangers are eager for a turnaround.

The Rangers’ recent struggles were highlighted in a 10-1 drubbing by St. Louis on Wednesday, with Marcus Semien accounting for two of Texas’ five hits. This came on the heels of an 8-1 defeat on Tuesday, where the team managed only four hits.

On the other hand, the Red Sox arrive in Texas with a glimmer of hope. Despite a 4-8 record in the second half of the season, they carry some positive momentum. Rafael Devers’ RBI double in the 10th inning clinched a 3-2 victory over Seattle on Wednesday, capping off a stellar month for the slugger. Devers posted a .362 average with six homers, 24 RBIs, and an impressive 1.132 OPS in July.

Boston’s win against Seattle marked their first series victory in four attempts since the All-Star break and snapped a streak of six games where they allowed seven or more runs.

Starting Pitchers

Right-hander Kutter Crawford (6-8, 3.60 ERA) will take the mound for Boston on Friday. Crawford struggled in his last start against the Yankees, giving up five runs on eight hits, including three home runs, over 4 2/3 innings. In his career, Crawford has faced Texas three times (two starts) with a 3.75 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 12 innings but has yet to record a decision.

Texas is expected to start Jose Urena, who boasts a 3-5 record with a solid 3.07 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP over 76.1 innings this season. Urena has been effective recently, allowing just six earned runs in his last five relief appearances, spanning 12.2 innings.

Trends

The total runs line has gone OVER in each of the Rangers’ last six games. Similarly, in each of the Red Sox’s last five night games against American League opponents, the total runs line has also gone OVER.

Elite MLB Pick 8/2

The Rangers, eager to shake off their recent struggles, will rely on Jose Urena’s steady pitching to keep them in the game. Meanwhile, the Red Sox’s Rafael Devers, coming off a hot July, will look to continue his offensive surge. Kutter Crawford’s recent struggles on the mound could give the Rangers the edge they need. Expect a high-scoring affair as both teams have been trending OVER the total runs line.
