It’s been and still is, a very profitable time of the year here at Elite Sports Beat. In April I finished the month 15-10 (60%) +$7,925 overall. Meanwhile I am 4-3 +$1,600 so far in the month of May. If that doesn’t sound profitable, you should hear about my Stanley Cup playoff record and MLB record to date.
So far during the Stanley Cup Playoffs I am 9-4 (69%) +$7,180 and so far in the 2025 MLB season I am 11-5 (68%) +$4,725. Need proof? Proof can be found here, here and here.
Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets Game 2 Preview
Heading into Game 2 of the second-round Stanley Cup playoff series, the Dallas Stars hold a 1–0 lead over the Winnipeg Jets, largely thanks to the red-hot stick of Rantanen. The winger has posted back-to-back hat tricks, making him the first player in nearly 40 years to accomplish that in the playoffs, and only the third in NHL history.
Rantanen, who began the season with the Colorado Avalanche before stints with the Hurricanes and now the Stars, has erupted offensively at the perfect time. He scored a hat trick in the third period of Game 7 against Colorado, then followed it with another in the second period of Game 1 vs. Winnipeg. His output marks the first time a player has recorded multiple three-goal periods in a single postseason—a staggering stat in a league built on parity and defense.
Even more eye-catching: Rantanen has factored into the Stars’ last 12 goals, setting a new Stanley Cup playoff record for consecutive goals contributed to by a single player.
Jets Searching for Answers
Despite finishing 10 points ahead of Dallas in the regular season and dominating their head-to-head matchups (3–1, with a 13–5 goal advantage), Winnipeg looked flat in Game 1.
Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, a Vezina Trophy finalist, gave up three goals for the second straight game—below his elite 2.01 GAA from the regular season, but an improvement over his shaky first-round numbers against St. Louis.
The Jets did welcome back Mark Scheifele, who returned from injury and notched Winnipeg’s second goal of the night. But interim coach Scott Arniel didn’t like what he saw from the rest of the roster, saying the game “felt more like one in the middle of December” than a playoff showdown.
