The Minnesota Twins are rolling out the welcome mat for a 10-game homestand, starting with a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Monday night in Minneapolis. After nine games on the road, where they went 3-6 against the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, and Pittsburgh Pirates, they’re probably ready to sleep in their own beds and stop living out of suitcases.
The Twins’ road trip ended on a high note, though. After being shut out in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday against Pittsburgh, they exploded for seven runs in the 10th inning of Sunday’s 11-5 win. That’s one way to shake off a scoring drought!
Now, they’re turning their attention to the Rockies, who are on a seven-game road trip of their own. The Rockies split a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals before heading north. They’ve lost seven of their last nine games, including a 5-1 defeat to the Cardinals on Sunday. The bright spot? Rockies infielder Adael Amador made his major league debut, got a hit in his first at-bat, and even stole second base. Not too shabby for the Rockies’ No. 1 prospect, according to MLB.com.
Twins Starting Pitcher
The Twins are sending right-hander Chris Paddack (4-3, 5.26 ERA) to the mound on Monday. Paddack is stuck in a five-game winless streak and is probably hoping to avoid another Yankees-style shellacking, where he gave up seven runs on six hits in just four innings last Wednesday. However, he might find some comfort knowing he’s 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA in 17 innings against the Rockies. Maybe he just really likes their uniforms.
Rockies Starting Pitcher
Meanwhile, the Rockies will counter with right-hander Dakota Hudson (2-7, 5.25 ERA), who is also coming off a less-than-stellar outing. In his last start against the Cincinnati Reds, he allowed four runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings. Hudson has one career start against the Twins, which he won, giving up three runs in seven innings for a 3.86 ERA. That’s probably why he’s got a soft spot for the land of 10,000 lakes.
The Twins are hoping to ride the momentum from Sunday’s seven-run 10th inning into Monday’s opener. Manager Rocco Baldelli was practically doing cartwheels over his team’s big inning, especially after two games without a single run. Here’s hoping the Twins keep the fireworks going and the Rockies find a way to join the party without crashing it.
